Texas Tech College suspended men’s basketball mentor Mark Adams on Sunday for working with what the university named “an inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive comment” toward a university student-athlete.
The university claimed Adams was trying to encourage the college student-athlete, who was not named, “to be far more receptive to coaching.” The university explained Adams “referenced Bible verses about personnel, instructors, parents, and slaves serving their masters.”

The incident transpired last week.
“Texas Tech College has suspended men’s basketball head coach Mark Adams in relation to the use of an inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive remark past 7 days,” the school stated.
