Online Shopping Tips

Taste of Home shopping editors have a few tricks up our sleeves when it comes to HomeGoods, Marshalls and T.J. Maxx online shopping. Senior Shopping Editor Katie Bandurski, a self-proclaimed HomeGoods enthusiast, offers her personal tips for shopping the off-price retailer’s online store below.

If You See Something You Love, Buy It

The deals at T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods don’t last forever, and items tend to sell out very quickly. If you fall in love with a piece of home decor or a quirky new mug, add it to your cart ASAP. Otherwise, you might miss out.

Keep an Eye Out for Top Name Brands

If you’re looking for a certain brand or designer, you have to do a little digging! The deals are so sweet, that some brands like KitchenAid and Le Creuset are not searchable on the site. Instead, shop by category and keep an eye out for “Reveal Brand” icons. It’s like a treasure hunt!

Consider It Your One-Stop Gift Shop

When I say these brands have something for everyone on your list, I mean it. As a Shopping Editor, I do a fair share of my gift buying at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods. They carry options for kids, parents, significant others, friends, neighbors—and the prices can’t be beat!

Plan Ahead

If you’re shopping for a specific holiday (hello, HomeGoods Christmas decor!), start early. These merchants tend to have holiday items several months before the big day, so the sooner you shop, the better the selection.

Explore the Specialty Shops

The specialty shops—like the cashmere shop at T.J. Maxx or the idea shop at HomeGoods—offer insights into what’s currently trending. They often highlight the best finds, so it’s worth checking them out!

Download Shopping Apps

Not only do the store apps offer convenient shopping and push notifications for the latest arrivals, but they also have a few surprises like the visual search feature. Looking for specific cookware or aprons? Use the visual search feature to snap a pic and receive tailored recommendations of similar merchandise.

In-Store Shopping Tips

There are a few ways to ensure you’re making the most out of your visit. Some of the best finds are available on what employees call the “track.” The track is comprised of curated racks in the middle of the store, and what’s available differs at every store.

Another good rule of thumb for both in-store and online shopping is to always check the clearance section during “J” months. The stores’ biggest markdowns occur in January and June, going into July. Shopping online at Marshalls, HomeGoods and T. J. Maxx offers tons of great clearance finds year-round, so take a peek whenever you’re on the site!

Lastly, check the price tag color when you’re shopping. White price tags are regular merchandise, while red price tags indicate that an item is on clearance. Yellow price tags indicate the final clearance price, so snag any finds with yellow price tags! Keep in mind that even white-tagged items may not be restocked, so toss any must-have items into your cart.
